Rajganj, 27 May (Siliguri Chronicle) – A ‘Holding Centre’ is being developed at Fatapukur Old Market under Panikauri Gram Panchayat in Rajganj block as part of a broader state initiative across West Bengal.
According to sources, similar centres are being set up in several districts for the temporary detention of illegal infiltrators, suspected foreign nationals, and Rohingyas before the completion of deportation procedures.
Administrative officials said people found to be residing illegally in the country will be kept at these holding centres for a fixed period. During this time, legal and administrative formalities related to their repatriation to their respective countries will be carried out.
Authorities are also taking steps to strengthen surveillance and security arrangements at these facilities, considering the sensitive nature of the issue.
The construction of such holding centres in different districts has triggered discussions in various areas, and the proposed centre at Fatapukur Old Market has also drawn attention among local residents.
