Fulbari, 02 June (Siliguri Chronicle) – A tanker carrying mustard oil rammed into the rear of a stationary trailer on the Siliguri-Jalpaiguri National Highway near Murder More in Fulbari early Tuesday morning, leaving the tanker driver injured.
According to sources, the trailer, loaded with wheat, was travelling from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh to Assam when one of its front tyres burst late on Monday night. Following the breakdown, the vehicle was parked along the side of the highway near Murder More.
In the early hours of Tuesday, a mustard oil tanker heading towards Assam allegedly failed to spot the stationary trailer and crashed into it from behind.
The collision caused extensive damage to the front portion of the tanker, trapping both the driver and his assistant inside the mangled cabin.
Officials from the Fulbari Highway Traffic Outpost, New Jalpaiguri Police Station and Fulbari Fire Station rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. After nearly 30 minutes of efforts, the injured driver was rescued from the wreckage and taken to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for treatment.
Police later cleared the damaged vehicles from the highway and have started an investigation into the incident.
