Bagdogra, 24 May (Siliguri Chronicle) – A deer was rescued from the Daragaon area near Bagdogra on Sunday morning after it strayed into the locality from a nearby forest, triggering concern among residents.
According to local sources, the animal had been roaming around the area since late Saturday night. Residents kept a watch on the deer and informed the local Panchayat member on Sunday morning, who then alerted the Bagdogra Forest Department.
A team from the Forest Department soon reached the spot and launched a rescue operation. The operation continued for nearly half an hour before the deer was safely rescued. During the rescue, one forest worker reportedly suffered injuries after being bitten by the animal.
Forest officials said the deer is suspected to have entered the human settlement from the nearby Bagdogra forest in search of food. The animal will be released back into the deep forest after a medical examination, sources added.
