Police Crackdown on Banned Cough Syrup, Two Held in Naxalbari

Acting on a tip-off from residents, Naxalbari Police arrested two youths and seized 26 bottles of banned cough syrup during a late-night anti-drug operation.

Naxalbari, 05 June (Siliguri Chronicle) – Police arrested two youths and seized 26 bottles of banned cough syrup during an anti-drug operation in Naxalbari late at night.

According to police sources, local residents noticed two youths emerging from a suspected drug den in the area and informed Naxalbari Police Station. Acting on the tip-off, a police team launched an operation and intercepted the suspects on the Asian Highway at Bengai Jote in Naxalbari.

During the search, police recovered a total of 26 bottles of banned cough syrup. Officials said 13 bottles were allegedly found in the possession of each accused.

The arrested youths have been identified as Suraj Sharma and Sujoy Pal, both residents of Station Para in Naxalbari. The seized cough syrup has been taken into custody, and a case has been registered against the duo under the NDPS Act.

Police said the accused would be produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court. Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether any other individuals were involved in the illegal trade.

Officials added that anti-drug drives would continue on a regular basis as part of ongoing efforts to make Naxalbari free from drug-related activities.
