Siliguri, 05 June (Siliguri Chronicle) – A cleanliness drive was organised at North Bengal University on Friday to mark World Environment Day, with students taking part in a campus-wide campaign to promote environmental awareness and cleanliness.
The programme was conducted under the initiative of the Students for Development unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Volunteers began the drive in the morning and carried out cleaning activities across different parts of the university campus.
During the campaign, students cleaned roads, open spaces and other areas within the campus. Large quantities of plastic bottles, food packets and other waste materials were collected and removed.
ABVP representatives said the initiative was aimed at encouraging a plastic-free campus and fostering a sense of environmental responsibility among students.
As part of the awareness campaign, students were urged to avoid littering and make proper use of dustbins for waste disposal. Organisers said the drive sought to spread the message of cleanliness and environmental conservation among the university community and contribute to a cleaner and healthier campus environment.
