Siliguri, 16 April (Siliguri Chronicle) – A suspected case of an infant’s body going missing from a grave has sparked panic and unrest in Siliguri.
The incident was reported from a burial ground near the Mahananda River in Prakash Nagar, under the jurisdiction of Bhakti Nagar police station. Locals and family members raised an alarm after noticing signs of disturbance at the grave.
According to reports, the infant, a two and a-half month old from BBD Colony in Ward No. 02, had died around a month ago and was buried at the site. The family had been visiting the grave regularly.
On Thursday morning, when relatives arrived at the burial ground, they noticed clear signs of tampering and alleged that the body may have been removed. News of the incident quickly spread, drawing a large crowd and creating tension in the area.
Police personnel from Bhakti Nagar police station reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Security has since been tightened in the area.
The family has demanded that the grave be excavated to determine the truth. Officials said the BDO has been informed, and the exhumation is expected to be conducted in the presence of a magistrate.
Meanwhile, rumours of black magic and occult practices have surfaced in the locality. Police have detained a suspected tantric for questioning, and an investigation is currently underway.
