Siliguri, 18 April (Siliguri Chronicle) – Just days before the first phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections, political tensions have escalated in Ward No. 46 of Siliguri, as the BJP and Trinamool Congress locked horns over the distribution of forms related to the Annapurna Bhandar scheme.
The controversy emerged at Booth No. 14 under the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, where Trinamool Congress leaders alleged that BJP workers were distributing scheme forms to women in an attempt to influence voters ahead of polling. The party claimed that such actions violate the Model Code of Conduct and could mislead the electorate.
However, BJP leaders denied the allegations, asserting that no forms were being distributed. They maintained that only informational leaflets about the scheme were being circulated among residents.
The situation heightened tensions in the area, prompting the Pradhan Nagar police to intervene. After assessing the situation, the police informed the Election Commission’s monitoring cell. A team from the Election Commission later visited the spot and directed both parties to submit written complaints regarding the incident.
