Kharibari, 25 May (Siliguri Chronicle) – Two persons were arrested by Kharibari police after allegations surfaced that objectionable remarks were made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother in a social media video.
The accused have been identified as Munna Singh and Jiban Das. According to police sources, the arrests were made following a complaint filed by local leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
As per the allegations, Munna Singh, a resident of the Debiganj area under Binnabari Panchayat in Kharibari, allegedly made offensive comments in a video that later circulated widely on social media. The video reportedly sparked strong reactions in the area after going viral.
Following the incident, BJP leaders and workers demanded strict legal action against those involved. Among them was Siliguri organisational district secretary Anil Kumar Roy, who, along with party workers, submitted a written complaint at the police station.
Police said the main accused was arrested on the basis of the complaint, while another person, alleged to be associated with him, was also taken into custody during the investigation.
Both accused were produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Monday.
