Bagdogra, 27 May (Siliguri Chronicle) – Political tension has emerged in Upper Bagdogra Gram Panchayat under the Siliguri sub-division after dissident Trinamool Congress members joined hands with Congress panchayat members to move a no-confidence motion against the TMC-led board.
According to reports, a total of 13 panchayat members submitted the no-confidence motion before the Naxalbari Block Development Officer (BDO) on May 25.
The 21-member Upper Bagdogra Gram Panchayat had seen the Trinamool Congress win 11 seats in the last panchayat elections, while Congress secured 7 seats, BJP won 2 seats and Adivasi Vikas Parishad got 1 seat. Following the results, TMC’s Sanjib Sinha became the Pradhan with majority support.
Dissident TMC panchayat member Kulbhushan Sharma alleged that the Pradhan had failed to carry out development work in the area, prompting members from different parties to unite against him. However, he said only time would tell whether taking a stand against the party was the right decision.
Congress panchayat member and opposition leader Laxmi Thapa also accused the Pradhan of not carrying out adequate work. She claimed that six TMC members and seven Congress members jointly brought the no-confidence motion.
Meanwhile, Pradhan Sanjib Sinha said he was not aware of the no-confidence motion and claimed he did not know who had moved it or the reasons behind it.
