Naxalbari, January 10 (Siliguri Chronicle) – Police foiled a drug trafficking attempt in Naxalbari on a foggy night, arresting a youth who had allegedly arrived to deliver narcotics. During the operation, police recovered 504 grams of brown sugar from his possession.
The arrested man has been identified as Ramzan Ali, also known as Abbas. According to police sources, he is an active drug trafficker from Malda district. Investigators said he had allegedly brought the contraband from a village near the Bangladesh border in Malda and was planning to deliver it in Naxalbari.
Police noticed the suspect behaving suspiciously near the old petrol pump area close to Naxalbari railway station. When officers stopped and questioned him, they found inconsistencies in his answers, which further raised suspicion.
A search conducted thereafter led to the seizure of 504 grams of brown sugar. He was arrested on the spot by Naxalbari police under relevant drug trafficking charges.
Police said further investigation is underway to identify others involved in the trafficking network and to trace both the source and the intended recipients of the seized drugs.
