Banned Cough Syrup Bust in Rajganj, Two Held in Police Crackdown

Police seized 50 bottles of banned cough syrup worth around ₹1 lakh in Rajganj and arrested two persons during a late-night raid in Balram area.

Rajganj, 28 May (Siliguri Chronicle) – Two persons were arrested with a large consignment of banned cough syrup during a late-night police operation in the Balram area under Rajganj. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police from Bhorer Alo Police Station carried out a raid and recovered 50 bottles of banned cough syrup.

The arrested accused have been identified as Abtar Ali, a resident of the Badlagach area under Majhiali Gram Panchayat, and Tapan Roy, a resident of Haricharan Vita under Binnaguri Gram Panchayat.

Police sources said the duo was transporting the banned cough syrup on a motorcycle at the time of the operation. The motorcycle used for transportation, along with three mobile phones, was also seized by police.

Officials stated that the estimated market value of the seized contraband is around ₹1 lakh. The accused were produced before the Jalpaiguri District Court on Thursday. Police have started a detailed investigation into the matter.
