Rajganj, 20 May (Siliguri Chronicle) – Former Rajganj MLA Khageswar Roy legally remarried his wife after 52 years of marriage to complete the necessary documentation required for receiving MLA pension benefits.
On Wednesday, Roy arrived in Jalpaiguri along with his wife and completed the marriage registration following all official procedures. The incident has triggered discussions across political circles as well as among local residents.
According to sources, the former MLA had recently applied for pension benefits under the MLA quota in Kolkata. During the verification process, authorities reportedly asked him to submit a valid marriage certificate. However, despite spending over five decades together as husband and wife, the couple did not have any official marriage registration documents, causing delays in the pension process.
To resolve the issue, Roy decided to legally formalise the marriage. The couple subsequently completed the legal marriage formalities in Jalpaiguri on Wednesday.
Sources further revealed that Khageswar Roy and his wife were married around 52 years ago according to social customs and traditional rituals, but the marriage had never been officially registered.
