Siliguri, 22 May (Siliguri Chronicle) – The body of an unidentified person was recovered from the Noukaghat area of Siliguri on Friday morning, triggering concern among local residents.
According to sources, a local resident spotted the body lying inside a bush near the bank of the Mahananda River while out for a morning walk. The resident immediately alerted people in the area, following which police were informed.
Police personnel from NJP Police Station reached the spot and recovered the body. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, while efforts are underway to identify the deceased.
Locals claimed that no clothes or personal belongings were found near the body, leading to suspicion over the circumstances surrounding the death. Some residents suspect that the person may have been murdered elsewhere and the body dumped in the area.
Police have started an investigation and are probing all possible angles to ascertain the exact cause of death.
