Siliguri Police solve Milan Pally burglary case, arrest two repeat offenders

Police arrest two repeat offenders and recover over 90 grams of stolen gold in swift breakthrough in the Milan Pally burglary case.

Siliguri, December 11 (Siliguri Chronicle) – Siliguri Police have cracked the burglary that took place at an unoccupied house on P&T Street in Milan Pally. Acting on confidential inputs, officers arrested the prime accused and his accomplice eight days after the incident.

Based on their statements, police also recovered the stolen gold jewellery. The developments were announced by Siliguri Metropolitan Police ACP Somnath Das during a press conference at the Siliguri Police Station.

According to ACP Das, miscreants broke into an unoccupied house on P&T Street on 2 December and carried out the theft. The homeowner filed a written complaint at Siliguri Police Station on 5 December after returning home and discovering the break-in. Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation and, aided by intelligence inputs, arrested Prakash Deb from the Jalpai More bus stand on 6 December.

Deb was produced before the Siliguri Court on 7 December, where police obtained a five-day remand for further questioning. During interrogation, the name of another suspect, Jayanta Roy, emerged. Police later arrested Roy from a rented house in Pran Krishna Colony Lane 2 under Ward 28.

Interrogation of Jayanta Roy led police to recover gold jewellery he had hidden inside his rented accommodation. The seized gold, weighing over 90 grams, is valued at several lakh rupees. Police said Roy will be produced before the Siliguri Court and taken on remand for further questioning along with Prakash Deb.

ACP Somnath Das confirmed that both men are repeat offenders with several previous criminal cases. He added that they carried out the burglary after identifying that the house was vacant.

The homeowner expressed satisfaction at the recovery of the stolen jewellery and thanked the police for their swift action.
