Rajganj, December 05 (Siliguri Chronicle) – Residents of Mahamaya Colony in Ambari, Rajganj, have raised concerns about the distribution of poor-quality ration. Locals allege that the rice they received is infested with insects and the flour is unfit for consumption.
On Friday, ration dealer Uttam Kumar Biswas, who supplies goods to Binaguri Gram Panchayat’s No. 9 Colony, allegedly delivered rice and flour that residents said were not fit for consumption.
Locals said the rice contained visible insects and the flour was impossible to use for cooking. They added that such issues have been happening for a long time, and consuming the supplied items has caused stomach problems for several residents.
Despite repeatedly alerting the ration dealer, they claim no action has been taken to improve the quality. Ration dealer Uttam Kumar Biswas acknowledged that the rice and flour being distributed contain insects, but said this is the condition in which they receive the stock. He added that the issue will be reported to higher authorities.
