Kharibari, 29 May (Siliguri Chronicle) – Two women from Thailand were arrested at the Indo-Nepal border in Panitanki under Kharibari after they were allegedly found carrying fake immigration stamps while attempting to enter Nepal. Police later arrested another person in connection with the case.
According to reports, SSB personnel stopped the two women for document verification while they were trying to cross the border on Thursday. During checking, officials noticed discrepancies in the immigration stamps on their documents.
After verifying the details with the immigration department at the border, authorities reportedly confirmed that no such stamps had been officially issued in the names mentioned in the documents.
Following the verification, the two women were handed over to Kharibari Police on charges of forging government immigration stamps and attempting to cross the border illegally. The arrested women have been identified as Pimchanok Ketla and Chintara Buddhafong, both residents of Thailand.
Police sources said the driver of the four-wheeler carrying the women towards Bhadrapur fled from the spot after the incident, raising suspicion. However, during the course of investigation, police later arrested the driver, identified as Kuldeep Sharma.
Police are now searching for another person believed to be linked to the case. Investigators are also trying to find out why fake immigration stamps were allegedly used despite the women reportedly possessing valid travel documents.
