Siliguri, 27 May (Siliguri Chronicle) – The long-awaited flyover on Burdwan Road in Siliguri is now nearing completion, with fresh painting work on the structure drawing attention across the city ahead of its inauguration.

The flyover, which was earlier painted in blue and white, is now being given a new colour scheme. The outer portions are being painted saffron, while black and white shades are being used on the inner sections.

The change in colour has sparked discussion in the city, especially in the backdrop of recent political developments in the region. A few days ago, the entire flyover had first been repainted white after the earlier blue and white paint was removed.

Sources claimed that Darjeeling MP Raju Bista had earlier hinted at the colour change. However, no official statement has yet been issued regarding the decision.

Considered an important infrastructure project for Siliguri, the Burdwan Road flyover is expected to reduce traffic congestion significantly after becoming operational. Construction work, which has continued for a long time, is now in its final phase.

Officials said the painting work is likely to be completed within the next few days, following which the flyover is expected to be formally inaugurated and opened for public use.
