Rajganj, 25 March (Siliguri Chronicle) – Anger is mounting among residents of Dangapara near Bandhunagar under Majhiali Gram Panchayat in Rajganj block over the poor condition of roads in the area. Locals have raised the slogan “No road, no vote” and warned of boycotting the upcoming elections if their demands are not met.

Residents alleged that the road has been in a dilapidated state for several years. Despite repeated complaints to the panchayat authorities and local representatives, no permanent solution has been implemented. They said assurances have been given multiple times, but no work has started on the ground.

The condition of the road has been causing daily inconvenience, locals said. The situation worsens during the monsoon, when waterlogging and mud make movement extremely difficult. Schoolchildren and emergency services are among those most affected.

Residents further claimed that promises to construct the road are made before every election but are never fulfilled. They also alleged that the road was to be built under the “Amader Para, Amader Samadhan” scheme, but no progress has been made so far. Frustrated over the continued delay, they have now threatened to boycott the polls.

Meanwhile, Majhiali Gram Panchayat Pradhan Sumit Dutta said efforts had been made to start the work, but it could not proceed due to a lack of funds. He also cited the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct as a reason for the delay. Assuring that the issue will be addressed, he said work would begin once funds are available after the elections and discussions will be held with residents to find a solution.
