Siliguri, March 18 (Siliguri Chronicle) – Four men accused of committing crimes in another state were arrested from a hotel in Siliguri after they allegedly went into hiding, police said.
The arrests were made during a joint operation by the Special Operation Group, Siliguri Police Station and Khalpara Outpost in the Hill Cart Road area.
The accused have been identified as Rizwan Alam, Azad Alam, Md Imran Akhtar and Sher Md, all residents of Champaran in Bihar.
According to sources, the four had checked into the hotel on Monday but rarely stepped out of their room, which raised suspicion among the hotel staff. The authorities subsequently alerted the police.
Acting on the tip-off, a joint police team raided the hotel on Tuesday afternoon and detained the suspects. A search of their room led to the recovery of more than ten ATM cards and cash amounting to Rs 84,500, following which they were formally arrested.
Police suspect the accused may be linked to ATM fraud or robbery and could have been planning a major crime in the city. An investigation is currently underway.
