Siliguri, March 18 (Siliguri Chronicle) – In a significant breakthrough ahead of the upcoming elections, NJP Police arrested two youths and recovered a firearm during an operation in Siliguri.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Rajib Dutta and Sanat Barman, both residents of Paschim Dhantala.
According to police sources, the two were seen standing in the Chobavita area around 2 pm on Tuesday, allegedly planning to sell the firearm.
Acting on a tip-off, plainclothes police personnel reached the spot. The accused tried to escape but were quickly apprehended. During a search, one firearm along with ammunition was recovered from their possession.
Police said that Sanat Barman has been previously involved in several firearm-related cases and had been arrested earlier as well.
Both accused were produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Wednesday. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
