Phansidewa, January 05 (Siliguri Chronicle) – Parents in Phansidewa’s Bidhannagar area staged a protest on Monday against a sharp increase in admission fees at Santoshini Vidya Chakra High School, alleging that the hike has placed an undue financial burden on families.
According to the protesting parents, the school is charging ₹1,000 per student as admission fees, far higher than the government-prescribed amount of ₹240. They said such extra charges are difficult to afford, especially for families from the rural area, and questioned the justification for the increase.
As the protest intensified, the school authorities temporarily suspended the admission process.
Responding to the allegations, the school’s acting headmaster said a meeting was held with parents on November 19, where a proposal to collect additional funds for school development was discussed. He claimed that parents had agreed to the proposal at the time.
However, with objections continuing, admissions at the school remain on hold until the issue is resolved.
