Rajganj, December 28 (Siliguri Chronicle) – MLA Khageswar Roy on Sunday laid the foundation stone for a new road under the Shikarpur Gram Panchayat in the Rajganj block, marking a significant step towards improving local connectivity.
The project addresses a long-standing demand of residents, who have been seeking better road infrastructure to ease daily travel and access to essential services. Local people expressed hope that the new road would improve transportation and contribute to the overall development of the area.
The road will run from Niranjan Roy’s house in Sonarbari to Krishna Chura More, passing through Margivita and linking with the Gate Bazaar PWD Road. The stretch will cover a total length of around 2.5 kilometres.
The project will be carried out with financial assistance from the Panchayat and Rural Development Department of the West Bengal government, aimed at strengthening rural infrastructure and improving connectivity in the area.
The foundation-laying ceremony was attended by Jalpaiguri Zilla Parishad Karmadhyaksha Ranbir Majumdar, Shikarpur Gram Panchayat Pradhan Prabha Kujur, Anita Roy, Narayan Basak, and several other public representatives. A large number of local residents were also present at the event.
The new road is expected to ensure smoother travel and significantly improve accessibility for residents of the area.
