Siliguri, 28 May (Siliguri Chronicle) – Tension continued in Siliguri on Wednesday following the violent clash between members of Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) over the admission process at Siliguri College earlier this week. In connection with the incident, TMCP leader Biswajit Sarkar has been arrested by police.
According to sources, the trouble began on Monday morning after a dispute broke out over setting up a student help desk during the college admission process. The argument soon escalated into a violent clash inside the college campus, where members of both student organisations allegedly got involved in a physical altercation.
During the incident, TMCP student leader Vivek Jha suffered serious injuries and was admitted to Siliguri District Hospital for treatment. He was later discharged from the hospital after receiving medical care.
As part of the investigation, Siliguri Police reviewed CCTV footage from the college campus and later arrested Biswajit Sarkar in connection with the case. He was produced before a court, which remanded him to 5 days of judicial custody.
Police officials said further investigation is underway and efforts are being made to identify the involvement of other individuals linked to the violence.
