Mystery shrouds firearm recovery near India-Nepal border in Kharibari, cops begin probe

Kharibari, 23 May (Siliguri Chronicle) – An illegal firearm was recovered once again from the border area of Kharibari near the India-Nepal border, raising fresh concerns over security in the region.

Sources said local residents spotted a country-made firearm wrapped in a black plastic bag near the SSB camp at Gaur Singh Jote on Friday. The matter was immediately reported to the police.

Personnel from the Panitanki Outpost under Kharibari Police Station rushed to the spot and recovered the firearm. The weapon was later taken to the police station for further examination.

Police have launched an investigation to find out where the firearm came from and how it reached the border area.
