Siliguri, 15 May (Siliguri Chronicle) – A major fire broke out in the Burdwan Road area of Siliguri on Thursday night, completely gutting five houses and causing widespread damage in the locality.
According to local sources, the flames spread rapidly soon after the fire erupted, creating panic among residents. Locals immediately informed the fire department, following which three fire engines rushed to the spot.
Firefighters carried out intensive efforts for several hours before finally bringing the blaze under control. However, by the time the fire was extinguished, all five houses had been extensively damaged.
Preliminary investigation by the fire department indicates that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit. Police and fire officials have started a detailed probe into the incident.
