Bagdogra, 29 March (Siliguri Chronicle) – A brief moment of political courtesy was witnessed during campaigning in the Matigara–Naxalbari assembly constituency, as BJP candidate Anandamay Barman and CPI(M) candidate Jharen Roy exchanged greetings in Bagdogra.
On Sunday, Anandamay Barman was campaigning with party workers in Gadadhar Pally. After completing outreach in Gadadhar Pally and Stalin Nagar, he arrived at Panighata Road, where he noticed Jharen Roy conducting a door-to-door campaign from the opposite side. Spotting each other, Barman stepped forward, leading to a brief and cordial interaction.
Speaking about the exchange, Barman said that despite political differences, he believed in maintaining personal courtesy and cultural values. He also described Jharen Roy as a senior political figure, adding that while electoral contests may be competitive, mutual respect should be upheld.
Jharen Roy, on the other hand, said his campaign has been receiving a positive response from the public. He noted that the interaction took place naturally during campaigning and added that although their parties follow different ideologies, personal courtesy between individuals will continue.
