Jalpaiguri, January 19 (Siliguri Chronicle) – Trinamool Congress leaders and workers held a protest in Jalpaiguri on Monday, accusing authorities of harassing common people under the pretext of SIR. The party said the protest was aimed at opposing what it described as unfair and intimidating actions that are troubling the public.
As part of the demonstration, TMC supporters took out a rally before assembling at the Jalpaiguri Sadar Block Development Office (BDO). The protest was led by Jalpaiguri Sadar Panchayat Samiti president Binay Kumar Roy, along with several senior party leaders and party workers.
Addressing the gathering, Jalpaiguri Sadar Block-2 TMC president Arjun Das alleged that similar harassment in the name of SIR is taking place across West Bengal. He claimed that the BJP and the Election Commission are introducing new rules frequently, which he said is creating fear and confusion among people.
Arjun Das also said that many people are suffering from mental stress due to the situation and demanded that such practices be stopped immediately. The protest ended with TMC leaders submitting their demands to the authorities and urging them to take steps to resolve public concerns.
