Naxalbari, 30 March (Siliguri Chronicle) – Tensions rose in Naxalbari after 66 voters, including the Karmadhakshya of the Panchayat Samiti, were reportedly removed from the electoral roll following the release of the second supplementary list.

According to reports, the deletions were recorded at Booth No. 25/62 located at Sebdulla Jote Primary School in Hatighisa. Earlier, the final voter list published on February 28 had already excluded 40 names, while 111 out of a total of 966 registered voters were kept under review.

With the publication of the second supplementary list, 66 more names have been dropped, and 11 cases remain under scrutiny. Among those removed is Ashraf Ansari, Karmadhakshya of the Naxalbari Panchayat Samiti.

Ansari has alleged that the deletions have disproportionately affected members of the minority community as well as two tribal voters. He also claimed that the actions are politically motivated and intended to benefit the Bharatiya Janata Party.

He said that he has full faith in the Constitution and is seeking justice. Ansari added that his family has a long history in the electoral process, stating that his grandfather voted in 1951 and his father’s name appeared on the voter list in 2002, while he possesses all required documents.

Other affected voters also raised concerns over alleged irregularities in the revision process. The exclusions led to anger among residents, who demanded corrective action from the authorities.
