Naxalbari, March 18 (Siliguri Chronicle) – Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Sankar Malakar on Wednesday began his election campaign from a tea garden in Naxalbari, a day after being officially announced as the party’s nominee.
Malakar has been fielded from the Matigara-Naxalbari Assembly constituency. Soon after the announcement, he visited workers at the Atal Tea Garden in Naxalbari, where he interacted with them and sought their support. He also participated in a rally alongside tea garden workers.
Addressing the gathering, Malakar said that the development projects and welfare schemes introduced by the government led by Mamata Banerjee have reached people across all sections of society. He also criticised the sitting MLA from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging a lack of development work in the area.
Expressing confidence ahead of the elections, Malakar said that the BJP would face defeat in the constituency.
