Siliguri, March 18 (Siliguri Chronicle) – Security has been tightened across the state in line with the Election Commission’s directives to ensure free, fair and peaceful polling. As part of these measures, naka checking drives are being carried out in different parts of Siliguri and adjoining areas.
Heightened vigilance was seen at Panitanki More, a key transit point in the city, where police stopped and thoroughly checked vehicles, including four-wheelers. Officials verified documents and searched for illegal cash, liquor, arms or any suspicious items.
The drive was led by Panitanki Outpost Officer-in-Charge Nirmal Das, along with members of the Static Surveillance Team (SST).
Administrative sources said the intensified checks aim to curb illegal activities and prevent any undue influence ahead of the elections. Authorities have urged residents to cooperate during the process.
Naka checking drives are likely to continue in the coming days.
