Phansidewa, 28 March (Siliguri Chronicle) – A powerful storm swept through parts of Phansidewa on Friday night, causing widespread damage across several areas of the Bidhannagar block, including Badalakata, Variakhali, Madhupur and Mini Dhakpara.
Mini Dhakpara village was the worst affected, where tin roofs of more than 40 houses were blown away, triggering panic among residents. Essential household items and stored food were also damaged in the storm.
Farmers suffered significant losses as hail lashed the region, destroying standing pineapple and maize crops. The storm also uprooted large trees and damaged electricity poles, leading to power outages in multiple villages.
Residents of the affected areas are now looking towards the government for assistance as they begin to recover from the extensive damage.
