Siliguri, December 07 (Siliguri Chronicle) – The Pradhan Nagar police foiled a cannabis smuggling attempt after discovering a hidden compartment inside a mat and arrested a youth in connection with the case. The accused, identified as Jareep Sheikh, is a resident of Murshidabad.
Acting on a tip-off received on Saturday evening, police launched an operation in the Siliguri Junction area and stopped a suspicious youth for questioning. During the search, officers found a bag of mats that had been carefully cut open to create a hidden chamber. Inside the compartment, police recovered 10.3 kilograms of cannabis.
Following the seizure, the accused was taken into custody and produced before the Siliguri court. Police said an investigation is underway to identify others linked to the smuggling network.
