Siliguri, 29 March (Siliguri Chronicle) – The prime accused in the minor girl death case in Siliguri has been arrested, marking a key breakthrough in an incident that had triggered widespread outrage across the region.
According to reports, the accused, identified as Amir Ali, was apprehended by police from another state and brought to Pradhan Nagar Police Station.
Following the arrest, BJP candidate Shankar Ghosh called off his four-day sit-in protest. He had earlier suspended his election campaign, demanding immediate action in the case. With the accused now in custody, Ghosh has resumed his campaign activities.
Darjeeling MP Raju Bista said the arrest is only the beginning of the legal process. He stressed the importance of a swift, fair, and stringent investigation to ensure justice is delivered.
In the wake of the incident, the Bangiya Hindu Mahamancha had called for a ‘Siliguri Bandh’ on March 30. However, after Bista’s appeal following the arrest, the organisation withdrew the bandh.
