Siliguri, December 16 (Siliguri Chronicle) – A special traffic awareness programme was organised on Tuesday by the Salugara Sub Traffic Guard under the Bhakti Nagar Traffic Guard of the Siliguri Metropolitan Police to promote safe driving practices, reduce road accidents, and encourage compliance with traffic rules.
The programme aimed to raise awareness about traffic rules, with a special focus on the mandatory use of helmets by two-wheeler riders. As part of the initiative, Deputy Commissioner of Police Quazi Samsuddin Ahamed distributed 60 helmets among children to promote road safety awareness from an early age.
Officials said the initiative aims to take the message of road safety into households through children, encouraging them to follow traffic rules and also motivate elder family members to adhere to safe road practices.
During the programme, children were educated on the importance of wearing helmets while riding two-wheelers and how strict adherence to traffic rules can help prevent road accidents.
The programme was attended by DCP Quazi Samsuddin Ahamed, Traffic ADCP Purnima Sherpa, ACP and officer-in-charge of the Bhaktinagar Traffic Guard Amartya Chakraborty, officer-in-charge of the Salugara Sub Traffic Guard Arindam Chatterjee, along with other police officers and personnel.
