Rajganj, 20 March (Siliguri Chronicle) – The Ambari-Falakata Nagarik Mancha has submitted a memorandum to the station master, demanding that trains halt at Ambari railway station. On Friday, the organisation forwarded an application through station authorities to the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the Katihar Division under the Northeast Frontier Railway, highlighting the issue.
According to reports, the railway authorities recently introduced the Haldibari–Balurghat and Haldibari–Bamanhat train services. While these have improved connectivity to some extent, the absence of stoppages at Ambari railway station has sparked growing dissatisfaction among local residents.
Members of the Nagarik Mancha said that a significant number of students and working professionals from Ambari and nearby areas travel daily to Siliguri and adjoining regions. Without train stoppages at Ambari, commuters are forced to depend on neighbouring stations, leading to inconvenience and loss of time.
They further pointed out that the lack of adequate bus and transport services, especially after evening hours, adds to the difficulties faced by passengers. Despite being an important station, Ambari continues to suffer from limited train stoppages, a concern that locals say has persisted for a long time.
In their appeal, the organisation has urged the authorities to take immediate steps to ensure stoppages of the two trains at Ambari railway station. They also warned that failure to address the issue could lead to larger protests in the future.
