Police recover stolen gold jewellery, cash from abandoned quarters in Siliguri

Theft reported six weeks ago; three accused arrested and remanded to police custody as stolen jewellery and cash are recovered from abandoned quarters in Siliguri.

Siliguri, December 25 (Siliguri Chronicle) – New Jalpaiguri police have recovered stolen gold jewellery and cash from an abandoned quarters, nearly one and a half months after the theft was reported.

Police said the theft took place at the home of Swapan Mandal, a resident of Sipahi Para under Fulbari I Anchal, about six weeks ago. Following the incident, Mandal lodged a written complaint at the New Jalpaiguri police station, prompting an investigation.

Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation and arrested a man identified as Biswajit alias Laden from the Jaleswari area. During interrogation, two more accused Prasenjit Roy and Biswajit Roy were subsequently arrested.

All three were produced before a Jalpaiguri court, which remanded them to five days of police custody. Police said that during questioning, the accused disclosed that the stolen gold jewellery had been hidden in an abandoned quarters in the More Bazar area.

Acting on the information, police conducted a raid and recovered the stolen items. On Thursday, all three accused were again produced before the Jalpaiguri court. Police said further investigation into the case is underway.
