Gajoldoba, December 13 (Siliguri Chronicle) – With the onset of winter, migratory birds have begun arriving at Gajoldoba, drawing tourists keen on birdwatching. Species from distant regions such as South Africa and Siberia have been spotted congregating around the Teesta Barrage.
The area around the popular tourist spot ‘Bhorer Alo‘ has emerged as a key birdwatching destination, particularly in winter when migratory birds enhance its appeal. Each year, visitors from across the region flock to Gajoldoba to observe the birds, with many opting for boat rides to get a closer view.
Local boatmen often double up as guides, assisting visitors in identifying various bird species and learning their names. Tourists have expressed delight at the opportunity to see these unfamiliar birds from close quarters.
Boatmen said the arrival of migratory birds marks the beginning of the peak tourist season. The winter influx not only attracts a surge of visitors but also generates additional income for local residents.
