Rajganj, March 19 (Siliguri Chronicle) – Ending days of speculation, Trinamool Congress leader Khageswar Roy has confirmed that he will continue with the party after a phone call from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee resolved his dissatisfaction over not receiving a ticket.
Addressing a press conference alongside senior party leaders, the four-time Rajganj MLA said he would remain with the party and work for its candidates in the upcoming Assembly elections. He added that Mamata Banerjee had called him on Wednesday night and asked him to continue working for the party, and he would abide by her directive.
Roy admitted that he had been upset since the announcement of candidates and had publicly expressed his dissatisfaction. However, he said the issue has now been settled and confirmed that he will fully support the party’s nominees.
A founding member of the Jalpaiguri district TMC, Roy was first elected as MLA from Rajganj in a 2009 by-election and retained the seat in 2011, 2016, and 2021. His exclusion from the 2026 candidate list had triggered political speculation, which now appears to have been resolved following the intervention of the party leadership.
