July 07 (Siliguri Chronicle) – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a flash flood warning for 12 districts in Jharkhand, effective until 5:30 PM on Monday. The alert comes as moderate to heavy rainfall continues to lash several parts of the state, an IMD official confirmed.
According to the IMD bulletin, the districts at risk include Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla, Simdega, Khunti, Ranchi, Bokaro, Seraikela, West Singhbhum, and East Singhbhum.
Several parts of Jharkhand, including the capital Ranchi, have been witnessing moderate to heavy rainfall since Sunday.
According to Abhishek Anand, Deputy Director of the Ranchi Meteorological Centre, the downpour is being triggered by a cyclonic circulation and an associated trough system.
Light to moderate rainfall is expected across Jharkhand on Monday, with heavier showers likely in some parts of the western and southern regions, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The state has received 69% more rainfall than normal between June 1 and July 6, IMD official Abhishek Anand said. Jharkhand recorded 417.2 mm of rainfall during this period, compared to the average of 246.2 mm.
Latehar district registered the highest surplus at 157%, followed closely by Ranchi with 156%, Anand added.
However, Deoghar and Godda were still facing rainfall deficits, with 35 per cent and 28 per cent below normal respectively, he added.
