IMD Forecasts Heavy Rain in South and North Bengal Districts Through July 10

The India Meteorological Department said thunderstorms with gusty winds, reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph, are likely in several parts of all South Bengal districts.

July 09 (Siliguri Chronicle) – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday said that heavy rain is expected in some districts of West Bengal due to a low-pressure area. Other parts of the state may see light to moderate showers.

The IMD also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds, with speeds reaching 30 to 40 kmph, in several areas across South Bengal.

The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall in Paschim Bardhaman, Jhargram, Purulia, and Bankura in South Bengal, as well as in Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Kalimpong in North Bengal, till Thursday morning.

Kolkata is expected to have a generally cloudy sky with occasional light to moderate rain, according to the Met department.

The IMD said the low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal remains active and is likely to move towards Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh over the next two days.

Sriniketan in Birbhum district recorded the highest rainfall in the state, receiving 95 mm in the 24 hours till 8:30 am.

According to IMD data, other areas in the state that recorded significant rainfall during the same period include Bardhaman (73 mm), Kalimpong (68 mm), Bankura (47 mm), Baharampur (46 mm), and Panagarh (35 mm).

In Kolkata, 11.7 mm of rain was recorded, while nearby Salt Lake received 10 mm.
