Elderly Woman Found Beheaded, Drone Deployed in Grim Search for Missing Head

Over 24 hours after headless body found in Jalpaiguri, police intensify probe with drones; victim’s son-in-law missing, daughter detained for questioning.

Jalpaiguri, 29 March (Siliguri Chronicle) – More than 24 hours after the recovery of a decapitated body of an elderly woman in Jalpaiguri, police have intensified their investigation and launched a drone-assisted search to locate the missing head.

The headless body of the woman, identified as Samija Khatun, was found on Saturday morning in the Banijyer Hat area under Bahadur Gram Panchayat, triggering shock and concern across the locality.

Police from Jalpaiguri Kotwali Police Station initiated a search operation soon after the discovery, deploying sniffer dogs and carrying out extensive ground searches throughout the day and night. However, despite sustained efforts, the severed head could not be located.

On Sunday morning, the search operation was escalated with the use of drones to scan nearby areas more effectively.

Meanwhile, in a significant development, one of the victim’s sons-in-law has reportedly been missing since the incident came to light. Police have also detained one of the woman’s daughters for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
