He noted that Siliguri has more than 50 major schools running 714 buses. Each bus makes about four trips a day, adding up to nearly 2,800 trips. He said this creates a significant challenge for managing traffic in the city.

He urged school authorities to cut down on unnecessary trips by large buses in the city and to rely more on smaller vehicles to help reduce traffic congestion.

He also issued a set of safety guidelines, including verifying the licenses and backgrounds of bus drivers. Police and school officials will work together to decide where bus stops should be located.

Schools were also told to improve safety on their buses. This includes adding or upgrading CCTV cameras, installing GPS tracking, assigning female attendants, and keeping first-aid boxes fully stocked.
