Siliguri, December 14 (Siliguri Chronicle) – Matigara police arrested a youth for roaming with a firearm in the Matigara police station area late on Saturday night. Acting on a tip-off, plainclothes personnel conducted an operation and searched the Paribahan Nagar parking area, where the youth was taken into custody, police sources said.
During the operation, police stopped and searched a youth who was moving suspiciously in the area. A firearm along with two rounds of ammunition was recovered from his possession, following which he was arrested on the spot. The arrested youth was identified as Tenge Tamang (24), a resident of the Jorebunglow area under Sonada in Darjeeling district, police said.
Police sources said the accused had allegedly purchased the firearm and ammunition from the Panitanki area along the Indo-Nepal border. He was produced before a Siliguri court on Sunday, where police sought his remand for further interrogation.
Matigara police said the investigation is ongoing to trace the source of the illegal firearm and identify those involved in its supply.
