Siliguri, July 10 (Siliguri Chronicle) – The Trinamool Congress-led Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) has announced plans to build a 30-bed hospital in Dabgram, on the outskirts of the city.
Mayor Gautam Deb visited the proposed site on Monday and said the new facility will be set up on land adjacent to Matri Sadan, an existing SMC-run health clinic.
“Given the growing patient load at Siliguri District Hospital and North Bengal Medical College and Hospital, we have decided to build a dedicated hospital to ease the pressure and provide quality healthcare to residents,” Deb said.
The mayor said the project was launched after discussions with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who showed keen interest in strengthening healthcare services in the area. “This is the first time the civic board is taking up a project to establish its hospital,” Deb said.
The planned hospital will be a G+4 building with a total built-up area of 10,000 square feet, spread over two bighas of land. It will feature modern facilities such as CT scan, MRI, a dedicated blood bank, outpatient services, and diagnostic units for various specialities.
According to the mayor, a detailed project report (DPR) is currently being prepared and will soon be sent to the state health department for approval. Construction is likely to begin by December.
