Siliguri, 24 March (Siliguri Chronicle) – BJP candidate from Siliguri, Shankar Ghosh, has announced an indefinite suspension of his election campaign and public outreach activities following the suspicious death of a minor girl in the city.
Ghosh, who had earlier demanded immediate action and arrest of those responsible, had set a deadline for authorities to respond. With no significant progress reported within the stipulated timeframe, he intensified his protest.
On Tuesday, he staged a dharna at the base of the Ambedkar Statue, where he stated that he would not participate in any political programmes until the accused is arrested and justice is ensured.
The move has triggered discussions across political circles, with observers noting that the decision could influence the electoral atmosphere in Siliguri.
